The Permanent Home Campaign seeks to retire the mortgage on our “home” so we can commit all of our resources to our only, and ever-growing mission: providing supplemental groceries for our Arlington neighbors in need. The goal of the Permanent Home Campaign is $1 million, and we're more than half way home!. Total gifts and pledges for the Campaign project are over $600,000. Please make a gift and help AFAC to take the next step on the journey!
Background In 2007, AFAC’s Board was given a one-time offer to purchase its current facility. Given the possibility of a costly move, or seeing an increase in our rent, and the desire to remain in a location we know to be convenient to our clients, the Board considered it a prudent financial and mission-driven solution to purchase our building at 2708 South Nelson Street, committing funds from our endowment to do so.
The Campaign The Permanent Home Campaign's $1 million goal will not only retire the mortgage on our "home," which houses a warehouse, distribution center and offices, but will also allow us to replenish our modest endowment from which the down payment on the mortgage was borrowed, and to establish a capital needs fund. There is a special urgency to pay off the mortgage as the client load continues to increase weekly in tandem with the downturn in the economy. We are now routinely serving more than 1,200 families a week; an 80% increase over 2008. The sooner we can pay off our debt ($5,000 a month, the third largest item in the budget), the sooner we can focus all of our money, time and staff to our only mission - providing the most nutritious and fresh food we can to Arlington families who come to AFAC for groceries each week.
Your Participation Please partner with us to finish the Permanent Home Campaign and help those in the Arlington community who do not have enough food for themselves and their families. To make a gift to AFAC's Permanent Home Capital Campaign, click Donate.
Naming Opportunities We welcome the opportunity to recognize our leadership donors by displaying their names on various spaces in the AFAC facility, including naming the building itself. Some donors prefer to recognize an organization, business, family member or other person by putting his/ her name on a building or room. Please consider a leadership gift at the naming level of $25,000 or above—your generosity will help us to move closer to our goal of paying down our mortgage and securing our future.
For information on naming a space at AFAC, please contact Beth Johnson at 703-845-8486 or afacbeth@aol.com.
