Immediate Volunteer Opportunities

Jazz and Wine Summer Series in Shirlington.
Every Thursday in July and August, volunteers over 21, are needed to pour wine and collect drink tickets between 6-7:30pm. Proceeds from wine sales benefit AFAC. Please contact volunteer4afac@afac.org to sign up for a shift.

Handyman? One of our bathrooms needs a makeover. If you have experience laying sheet vinyl and painting, we can use your help with this project. Email Puwen.

Summer Time and the Living is Easy, but AFAC still needs food donations. Does your family belong to a swim club or a sports team? Consider holding a food drive, bake sale, lemonade stand, or ice cream event for AFAC. The AFAC website has some ideas for how your club or neighborhood, or just a group of kids, can have fun while making a difference in the lives of others.

Ever wonder where AFAC gets fresh produce? In the summer months, volunteers collect donations at Farmers Markets and bring harvests from their own gardens. AFAC volunteers also work with gleaning organizations and at area farms to pick crops which would otherwise go to waste. We can use your help in all these areas:

  • Interested in going on an AFAC "field trip?" Join a gleaning group and pick crops at local farms and orchards. Contact Susan Calligari, AFAC's Gleaning Coordinator at masoncal@mac.com for information on how to sign up.
  • Produce handlers are needed Saturday (12:30-2:30) and Sunday afternoons (1:30-3:30) throughout the summer. Volunteers collect fresh produce donations from Arlington farmers markets and it needs your attention here at AFAC. Help refresh it, bag it and it'll go out to AFAC clients the coming week. Contact us at volunteer4afac@afac.org for information.
  • Can you help pick up produce donations Tuesday evenings at the Crystal City farmer market? 6:15-7:45 pm. Contact Puwen at puwen.lee@afac.org to find out more.
