Hold a Food Drive
Food drives are a great way to help AFAC.
We've made it easy for you to organize a food drive. Feel free to customize any of the flyers on the right or make your own.
- You can distribute the flyers to your neighbors and offer your house or car as the collection point.
- You can put out collection bins in your office, church or apartment building.
Almost 66% of the food AFAC distributes is donated to us. The food we'll get from your food drive helps keep our costs down and provides us with just the kinds of food we need.
Heart Healthy Food Drive
AFAC
strives to provide heart healthy food to our clients. Please join us
between now and February 14th by conducting a heart healthy food drive
at your business, church, school and/or stop by the store to pick-up
something extra and drop it off at AFAC.
We are collecting the
following perishable items (please make sure to bring them to AFAC so
they can be used right away): apples, broccoli, cabbage, cantaloupe,
carrots, cucumbers, grapefruit, onions and potatoes. Non-perishable
items needed: low-sugar cereal, whole wheat pasta and canned proteins
(chicken, salmon, and tuna).
Drop off donations at AFAC (2708 S. Nelson Street Arlington, VA 22206) Monday-Friday between 8am and 4:30pm and Saturday between 9 and 11am. Call 703-845-8486 with any questions.
Please publicize the food drive with the attached flyer.
Calling all Giants and Patriots Fans!
Are you having a Super Bowl party? Consider having your guests bring in non-pershiable food items (especially our heart-healthy suggestions above) that can be donated to AFAC.
AFAC is a participating charity in the national Souper Bowl of Caring. This is a great event for fans, businesses, schools and houses of worship. If your group would like to register with Souper Bowl, find out more information at
www.souperbowl.org.
Emergency Food Kits
Volunteers can also organize Emergency Food Kit Drives for AFAC. Emergency Food Kits (EFKs) are given to clients with immediate needs by County social workers.

St. Mary's Episcopal Church gleaning teams brought back 100's of pounds of fresh produce to AFAC last summer. Your group can make arrangements to go gleaning any Saturday this summer or fall. Fresh corn! cucumbers! collards! A big thank you to St. Mary's!
